Earlier in a different thread, I can't remember which one, I said Plouffe was a below average defender, and that was my fault, I was mistaken. Clearly, he isn't as good of a defender as say Cowart, but all evidence points toward Plouffe being an above average defender at 3B.

Trevor Plouffe just looks to be a younger David Freese but with a lower OBP. His defensive metrics last year were only about one run saved better than Freese. I'm not sure he was worth a trade anyway.

 

Martin Prado may not get the Angels younger at 3B, but his OBP and defense are both clear improvements.

I don't put much stock into projection systems, especially the raw one they're using at BBRef, but it's showing Prado and Freese putting up nearly identical offensive numbers. Just thought that was interesting.

It does look like the Angels might get left out in the cold this hotstove season.  However, I would pass on Freese and see what Cowart and Kubitza have.
