Watching that hit still makes my blood f**king boil. BS play, particularly when the Avs were responsible for Despres missing 40 games this season for a concussion. Still can't believe that was missed AND the Ducks got a hooking penalty seconds after.

Eh, I did see something that that line starts 70% of their shifts in the defensive zone.  They do an amazing job shutting down the other teams top line.

 

Cogliano is the one I don't get, Silf never really scored but Cogliano scored 20 goals two seasons ago, wtf happened to him?  Was it Koivu?

I remember him getting a shit load of empty net goals that season though. It was also a contract year. His offensive numbers were always inflated.

He used to score on breakaways though, that is how he got so many shorthanded goals.  He doesn't even score those anymore.

My guess is, seeing as how he is on the shutdown line, he's being asked to stay back more and not releasing. Same goes for Kes and Silf. If either of those guys played with Perry and Rakell, their offensive output would dramatically increase.

break aways are kind of a 50/50 proposition tho.  Cogliano isn't a wizard with the stick or anything.  He has an OK shot.  Guys made stops.  It happens.

Defense shit the bed bad in this game.  Manson, Despres and Lindholm all with really stupid mistakes.

sort of concerning how the team has basically been shut out 5 on 5  three games in a row now.  I guess better now then in the playoffs.  This one hopefully wakes them up.  Not a good game.  They need to get back being defense oriented.

Maybe I'm overreacting but Fowler was a -4 in the game, he is not the franchise defenseman of the team. If he is then their in trouble in the playoffs.

For a guy who is 6'1 he is so anti-physical like he's a 5'8 D-man, Vatanen is 5'9 and plays more like a 6'2 guy.

If Vatanen & Fowler switched bodys, Vatanen would be a hitting machine.

He also has the worst shot of the talented D-men, Theodore, Montour, Vatanen, Lindholm, Larsson etc have much better shots from the blueline.

 

At this point might as well send Ritchie down, call up Theodore & let Despres sit on the bench for a while.
The added offense from Theodore offsets everything Despres brings.

Yeah, I'm also thinking that depending how long Vatanen is out.  They should call up Theodore.  We really need that point shot right now.

Also depends on Bieksa's injury.  That could be bad.

 

Fowler really struggled after he came back but seemed to have settled down until last night where he had a rough go of it.

Sounds like Fowler is having a difficult time with the full face shield. Some guys just can't adjust. Not sure how much longer he needs to wear it.

Kings play Blackhawks tomorrow, let's hope Chicago doesn't decide to play dead & let the Kings win. Ducks face a depleted NJ team tomorrow.

No kidding. There have been some really encouraging signs so far though.

Also Kesler has won 15 of 16 faceoffs through two periods. Is that even possible?
