I read an article earlier today (will have to look for the link, because it was listed on the news feed on my phone) that lays the blame pretty squarely on Moreno. It cites his willingness to spend big on free agents while cutting costs in areas that have long term implications for the franchise. An unnamed former Angels executive likened it to "buying a McLaren and taking it to Jiffy Lube."

The article further states that during the aborted sale process, Moreno may have started believing his own hype as he pitched the sale to potential buyers and talked himself out of selling.

Angels used to have that California star appeal from Autry and the whole Palm Springs thing.  They brought to life the “club” in baseball club.  But then Disney and now Arte, it’s crumbled into a mess.  
 

Painting everything red and relying on a monkey for 20 years is a bad brand.

If I was a journalist all I have to do is read Fletchers 3 part description, make a couple phone calls and I’d have stories for a month.

I used to do that in college and my undergraduate degree is in Communication from University of Wisconsin.  I consider myself as quite good as to selecting what is a good and bad source of information.  It’s getting harder every day.
