Gameday Thread: Rangers @ Angels (5/6/23): Detmers on the mound, no Rendon or Renfroe

Renfroe getting a day off makes some sense given his recent struggles. Rendon does not make sense unless he got injured. This is too big of a series to be benching the players currently having solid/productive at bats.

Rendon is an injury waiting to happen so he will be getting a lot of days off this season. Especially when the game is followed by a day game

I think we should all be fine with Rendon getting periodic days off. You all saw the way the offense has performed in his absence the last couple seasons. At his age, both he and the Angels have acknowledged he won't be playing 160 games. But if by giving him an additional day off once a week, it manages to keep him healthy and productive for 130 games, that's a victory right there.

And while Anthony isn't driving the ball over the fence as much anymore (it'll get better the further he's removed from shoulder injury), he's still reaching base at an elite clip and is very familiar with driving runners in, and clutch situations. So as long as he can do that, it becomes a Torii Hunter-esque graceful way of aging.

Anthony has a sore thumb. Poor thing...

I have a sore head trying to guess what his next injury might be.

If he plays 120 games it will be a successful year.

You should consider getting that looked at or you know, act your age.

Yep.  It’s the blue hairs and the kids who struggle to cope with it.

What does 3b look like in the future, two or three years down the line?  Nice to have Urshela for sure, I guess we could have Rengifo as back up at some point.  But is there a 3rd baseman or middle infielder that hits enough to play third that will be ready 2025ish?
