Albert Pujols will work with young players at the Angels’ academy in the Dominican Republic and tutor big leaguers and minor leaguers during spring training in Arizona as part of the retired slugger’s 10-year, $10-million personal-services contract with the team, club president John Carpino said.

“He’ll be like a team ambassador,” Carpino said Monday at the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach, which hosted a celebrity tournament to benefit the MLB Youth Academy in Compton. “We’re real excited about the possibilities moving forward. He’s Albert Pujols. It’s an asset. He has a ton of baseball knowledge.”

Having Pujols associated with the team, especially in the DR, can’t hurt.

He’s an idol to many of those kids, which could help the Angels in recruiting international signees and getting their own DR players to take advice from a future HOF.

The way the Angels got rid of him will not help the situation. It could have the opposite effect.

Why?

Almost no one who was part of the organization when he was brought in is still with the org, the Angels released him, ownership is about to change, his tenure here was largely a bust, etc., etc.  I just don't see any reason for the team to want to associate with him moving forward.  (Yes, he's a future Hall of Famer, can theoretically help mentor, etc.--but still just seems like a good opportunity to cut ties with a frustrating era.)

Or maybe they are just moving beyond all of that and making the best of an opportunity with him.  I think the fans want to cut all ties with him, but utilizing him in the role they've outline might be a good business decision.  They must have come to some sort of an agreement that is mutually beneficial.  I expect him to fulfill his contract.

Didn’t Albert marry one recently? He’ll be instrumental in showing 19 year olds how to change their birth certificates to make them 16 again.
