Trout on defense

Recommended Posts

Hamilton is a better defender than Hunter??

Although your theory does make sense.

Ive seen him let the corner of's catch alot of balls this year when he is standing right next to him.
Im going to say they show up bad because of improved corner of play.

At this stage of their careers, absolutely.  It's been easy to overlook since he's so worthless at the plate, but Hamilton's defense has been very good.  He covers a lot of ground and has a plus arm.

They say it takes three seasons worth of defense to be as confident in the results as you would one season of offense. In other words we can be about as confident in Trout's defensive numbers this year as we would be in less than three weeks of offensive numbers.

This is also why UZR rates him out as slightly above average on the season. Yes he hasn't looked as good in the outfield, or actually been as good out there, but this is short run performance. Let's see where he's at by the end of the year.

From the article - you can only laugh

Trout has not made any homer-robbing catches this season. That's not necessarily a knock against him. Homer-robs are really hard. Four in one season isn't something that is easily repeatable.

In 2009, Adam Jones had four. He's had two since then -- one in 2011 and one a couple of weeks ago. Gary Matthews Jr. had four in 2006 and then had one the next season.

Guess which team he played for when he had the four... and which team he played for when he had the one... and which team paid five seasons of premium dollar for 2006.
