So far it appears to only be good for video games and porn.

I figured we'd be able to get high quality access to the premier places and live events in the world by now. Who knows about this stuff? What's coming down the line?

Right now the big thing holding it back is hardware to process it.  You are essentially processing 2x the imagery.  The VR you get on phones, or the wireless headsets is really low quality.  You need a strong PC to be able to do higher resolution VR that would be "HD."  There is also a bandwidth issue and the fact that it is expensive.  There is more and more development being done all the time but I don't think you will  see anything mainstream for quite a while.  More is being done with AR.

Thanks! I envision a future VR service that would literally put you at a concert, football game, etc...

The big thing right now is eye tracking.  Currently with most VR, the only way to look around is to move your head, while it is immersive it isn't quite up to the level it could be.  Some of the new VR hardware finally supports eye tracking.  Also OLED 4k and 8k lenses.

I actually give money to a charity that sends VR to hospitals for sick kids to get away from it all.  They get access to a lot of the experimental stuff.

I just have a shitty homido thing that I have to put my phone in. My kids love to do roller coasters

Oculus Quest is basically the same thing.

I have an actual Oculus Rift, I play it some but mostly my daughter does, it makes me motion sick.

I just got back from visiting my son and I tried out his new Oculus connected to his PC and dang... talk about realistic.

We did boxing, played ping pong, HR derby, fought as a gladiator and shot zombies. What a workout!

Gonna get Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas and I'm pretty excited.

I was originally going to try and get a PS5, but it's not worth the hassle and after thinking about it, the Quest 2 seems to be more of a leap than the jump to a new generation of console. For the time being, we've got plenty with XBox One and Game Pass.

I'll get a PS5 or XBox Series X/S when it requires no more time than or stress than clicking a button the moment I see it. Maybe.

I'm pumped to try the Star Wars stuff.

@fishbulb I purchased the Oculus Quest 2 (256 Gig) VR unit a week or so ago for Christmas for the wife, daughter and I. We should be getting it soon.

My son who is a big gamer has been into this for a while now (he has the Oculus 1 model that's connected to his PC) so every time we go down to visit which has already been three times this year alone, we've spent hours playing so many different games on there. We got hooked so we got one for a Christmas gift for the fam.

The Star Wars game looks legit. I'll probably get that one!

Nice, man. Ours arrived yesterday. I'm seriously fighting the urge to open the box.

Did you order the oculus link cable, @Chuckster70?

I don't really have a gaming PC, so I'm not sure that it would be worthwhile.

Hey @fishbulb I didn't order a link cable, what's that for? I did order the head strap accessory though. The only negative review I could find on the Oculus 2 was that the head strap that comes with it isn't comfortable and after a while or so of doing VR the irritation gets you out of being submersed into VR because it's so uncomfortable. I ordered this one from Amazon:

I ordered one. Looks like a good purchase.
