The Chicago White Sox are setup pretty nicely

I could see this team becoming the Houston Astros of the AL Central. 

Sometimes you have to suck for a handful of years before you can become successful. Though it takes good drafting, high picks and smart trades/FA signings to get there.

Yeah i have to say they have done what i hoped we would do for the most part.
They are going to be in the mix soon, and often in the coming years.

Keuchel and Grandal are highly risky by the end of their deals, possibly sooner if they get unlucky. Unless they’re willing to spend big, that could be an issue.

All contracts are risky. Good thing the White Sox are not longing for cash and both their deals aren't super long term deals.

Arte Moreno, you know, the owner of the Angels, doesn't believe in tanking so they could never do what the White Sox did. This is why the Angels have been in mediocrity for years and years.

We've "tanked" while staying mediocre but now that the team is rebuilt and ready to contend we should be rocking and rolling for a while now.

The Cubs once seemed kind of similar to this. They killed it that year we opened against them (Chapman WS BS notwithstanding) but kind of sucked  comparatively the next year and never really came back as the same force thereafter

Besides what ever punishment the Astros get this year, there reign of the ALW may be near. Their farm system has been depleted through trades for pitching over the last 3 years. Their payroll is now among the highest in the league, and may even exceed the luxury tax level this year. Springer is going to be a FA at the end of the season and the Astros may not be able to afford him.

The bright spot is they extended Bregman on a team friendly contract at $20M/yr deal until 2024. Based on what Rendon and Arenado signed for, Bregman was a steal; still the Astros' payroll is at an all time high and once Whitley is promoted, their farm system will be without any prospects in the top 100.
