1) Gio was worth 2.2 WAR last season and was very good for MIL last season albeit in very limited time.  In the 2017 season he was worth 6.5 WAR, so he's shown very good ability.

2) He's a viable and low cost option instead of Keuchel who wants more years and more money and has draft compensation attached.

3) Besides Keuchel, what starting pitcher is out there that can improve Brewers?

Not sure what whether we were involved but he was traded to Milwaukee at the deadline last year and there seemingly would be a comfort level both ways...that may have been worth something...
