Interesting draft so far.

Impressed by Adell.  Seems like a very mature kid and tools are off the chart.  Talent wise reminds me of Justin Upton.

Canning - four pitch mix.  will be quick to the bigs.  could add a little velo.  Has more upside than he's being given credit for imo.

Pearson - really like this pick personally.  Great swing.  Throws like a girl.  literally.  Won't stick in CF unless they teach him how to throw.

Remaining 7 picks seem like a combo of 'we need slot money to sign our first three guys' and 'we found guys no one else did'.  The latter being a pretty dangerous game.

I think they'll go high upside with picks 11-15 and try to over slot a few.

I'd like to see us add Bryce Montes De Oca (someone mentioned him earlier), Jordan Spicer, Donovan Casey.  I'd even take a chance on Tristan beck.  Reports are he has a stress fracture in his back and that's why he hasn't been drafted yet, that plus he can just go back to school for another year.  Maybe the injury scared him a bit and he is willing to take the money now even though he could potentially earn more in a year?

Aren't HS picks less likely to sign in the later rounds?

Individual cases. Kids that haven't committed to a major university that are drafted in the later rounds are less likely to go to college, but again it just depends. Some kids fall to the later rounds because of of a major commitment though. Some kids know they want to go to the major leagues and need the money, some know the chances are slim and will honor their scholarship.

Keith Rogalla RHP 6'3" 205lbs. Seems like a solid pick up in the 12 RD.

Ranked 340th in the country by Baseball America.

A 37th-round pick out of an Illinois high school by the Phillies three years ago, Rogalla opted to attend Creighton and pitch on the same staff as his older brother Jack. He worked his way into the Bluejays' weekend rotation six weeks into his freshman season and has showcased one of the best arms in the Big East Conference ever season. He had an up-and-down junior year that included three starts getting rained out, but still should be Creighton's highest-drafted pitcher since the Giants took Ty Blach in 2012's fifth round. Rogalla's arm works well and produces fastballs that park at 92-94 mph and reach 96. He can spin a solid curveball but lacks consistency with his breaking ball. He also has the makings of an effective changeup but needs to use it more often. With his three pitches, big league body and sound delivery, Rogalla has the ingredients to remain a starter at the next level. To do, he'll have to do a better job of repeating his mechanics and finding the strike zone. If he moves to the bullpen, his fastball could climb toward the upper 90s in shorter stints.

Scouting

Scouting Report:

A 37th-round pick of the Phillies in 2014 out of high school, Rogalla is big and physical (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) with a 90-93 mph fastball with some run that touches 95 and a hard, downer 12-to-6 curveball. Rogalla's control comes and goes as he'll show flashes of dominance surrounded by starts where he can't find the strike zone. His frame, fastball/curveball combination and ability to generate swings and misses give him a chance to succeed in pro ball, but the inconsistencies and effort in his delivery may lead to a move to the bullpen.

This kind of sounds like Garrett Richards' scouting report after we drafted him.

There's quite a few top 100 guys still on the board, though with most of them, there's huge signability issues w/ committments to a college involved.

A couple of them are college pitchers though.  Figured they be snagged by now

Exhibit A = Trumbo in 2004, drafted in a mid teens round out of HS because it was assumed that he would attend USC.   But he, of course, signed with the Halos.
