Not that many have an interest in this, what with the performance enhancers domination in the sport, but American Tejay Van Garderen is in third place after 5 days, just 25 seconds in back of the leader.

i'm aware that it's on, but i haven't watched a single mile of it yet. probably not going to, either, unless the american is in serious contention towards the end.

 

greg lamond was a compelling story because of his recovery from a gunshot wound. lance armstrong because he was missing one of his nads. does this american have any kind of compelling story, AO?

The last time I seriously watched the Tour De France was in 2006, when Floyd Landis initially won in very dramatic come from behind fashion. The fact he got immediately disqualified for using synthetic testosterone was a massive buzzkill. Seems like there's not much point getting emotionally invested to any extent when wins so often get vacated due to PED use.

 

I follow race summaries and standings but haven't watched much of the actual footage. The general classification has been boring to watch anyway the last few years with the way Team Sky (Wiggins, and Froome) essentially dominates the race early on, builds up a big lead early on, then just sits on the defensive the rest of the time. It's impressive athletically, but there is no real contest to watch.

 

Normally my view is that it's better to watch stuff than to do stuff (me actually attempting to play baseball is pretty brutal), but cycling for me is the exact opposite.

I can't think of anything more boring than a bunch of dudes on road bikes.

I understand and appreciate they're incredible athletes and its a big deal to some people, but I would rather watch just about anything else
