Ducks D played a great game tonight.  Ive been pretty disappointed with Lindholm this season, but these last two games have been very good for him.  It really was a dominant effort for the team from a puck possession POV.  I hate seeing the team go into the shell like that in the 3rd though, they weren't even trying to generate scoring chances, and didn't really attack unless Calgary served a chance up to them.  They played the low risk game perfectly, but imo its tough to do that.  I just wish we could see some pucks go in the net for us.  Anyway, Gibson was good, came up big when he was needed.  Sometimes these games where you don't see a lot of action can be the toughest for a goalie.  Shows a lot of mental toughness on his part imo (an area where Anderson struggles mightily, if you are looking for differences in their games) Happy to get the 2 points and the win against a division opponent.  Next two against Edmonton and Vancouver are big time games as well.  Really hope this is the start of some kind of solid roll for us.

He hasn't been that bad, still better +/-, hits, blocks than Fowler in same amount of games & less total minutes on ice.

The key difference is he has 4 less points than Fowler, his strength is getting points from assists and with how the team has played he's not gonna get as many assists with the team struggling to score goals.

Whats surprising to me is Vatanen has as many blocked shots as Lindholm but in 1 more game played but he also has more than twice as many hits than Fowler & Lindholm. Fowler & Lindholm need to hit more, both of them are bigger & stronger than Vatanen.

Amazing how a small guy like Vatanen hits more than them.

People still want to trade Vatanen but he has been the best Dman on the team.  Fowler the second best.

Lindholm has completely fallen off the map, it is clear that Beauch was really holding him up.  When was the last time you saw Lindholm with one of his stretch passes?  Or skillfully skating out of the defensive zone?

No idea what happened to him.

Have u even looked at the stats or watched him ??? He hasn't fallen off the map. He still plays a better defensive game than Fowler with the only key difference being that he has 4 less points in same amount of games played. Anyone who watched the playoffs knows he was holding up Beauch. 4 more points is not that much better.

Fewer

I wasn't talking about the playoffs, I was talking about this year.  He isn't skating well, he isn't passing well and he isn't scoring.

Anyway, who knew that Vatanen would be the best dman on the team.

They are doing a terrible job with it then because you are supposed to hold steady in a playoff position, not bury yourself below the playoffs and fight your way in.

Talk about jumping the gun.

They havent "buried" themselves at all.  They are within 3 points of everyone except the Kings, with at least a game less played than all of them.  I would advise against their strategy of taking the first month or two off, but they obviously dont care about home ice in the playoffs anymore, which frankly I dont blame them.  If they were in any other division theres no way they would have taken as many games off as they did, but I think they know how bad the pacific is and that they dont need to do what they did the last two years which is storm through the regular season.

Also lolz at burying yourself in December.

+\- is almost the rbi of hockey. It's a worthless stat. Cam Fowler both ways is our most reliable guy IMO. I do like Vatanen a lot but he's very much a offensively oriented Dman. He's gonna get caught pinching, he's gonna make mistakes. It comes with the territory when your're dealing with that kind of player. Fowlers +/- is about being the most utilized player on the team and the team doesn't score. It's not a fair indictment of his play because he's been awesome. That's just my opinion. Every write up on the Ducks notes how good Cam Fowler has been. Lindholm has shrunk from the bigger role he was thrust into this season. The fact that it has come once Beauch departed is not a good look for him either. He's better then he's shown. But he has been really disappointing. In the last few games at least he's looked better. Also, we are very fortunate to still be in it. We've done everything in our power to be out of it at this point. If we played like this last season, we would be done at this point. It's just good fortune that we're still alive. By all means tho, hopefully we grab the opportunity and turn our season around. We definitely can do it.

Because they obviously knew how bad the division would be
