Orange County Register: Angels Notes: Nick Tropeano optioned to AAA, Josh Hamilton update

So the latest news on Hamilton is that he's made very little progress on his shoulder rehab and is hitting off a tee.

Three weeks ago Dipoto said..... From what I understand from the end of things, he's in there, he's getting after it. He's recovering very well. I believe that he's already taken a round of BP.

Lol at the credibility.

So three weeks ago there was some attempt to protect him or project him in a positive light in the press, and now there isn't. Hmmm.

i think there's a very good chance that it's got nothing to do with credibility, but more so a lack of urgency. i think he and they know he's going to be out for awhile with the suspension. if that's the case why rush rehab? there's a very good chance that he's rehabing no differently than any of us would, which is mainly a whole bunch of doing nothing. what's he got to get ready for?

Remember Albert's knee surgery....

October 18th 2012.....

Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto described Albert Pujols’ recent right-knee surgery as â€œa very minor procedure,” adding that he expects the first baseman to be â€œback at full strength” within a month or so.

“It was a cleanup, nothing significant, kind of a blip on the radar,” Dipoto said Thursday of the operation, which was performed on Oct. 9 in St. Louis. “We knew he was playing through pain, he took care of it and is good to go. I’ve spoken with him since, and he feels great.”

That knee took two years to heal.

Just to stay in shape, perhaps? If he has any interest at all in returning to baseball at any point in the future, it's probably going to be a lot easier if he's at least somewhat prepared.

I just look at Hamilton vs. Skaggs. Skaggs knows for a fact that he's going to be out of the game until 2016 and he's committed to rehabbing. He's planning on going on road trips with the team. He's appeared at Angels events. Hamilton...could ostensibly also be out until 2016, and he's holed up in Texas hitting off a tee. Maybe he's actually planning on retiring?

The original positive quotes seem as though they were trying to spin Hamilton as a player who was still committed to being a part of the team. Scioscia's comments make it seem as though they know there's little hope of that.
