9th Quality Start from the Angels today.

SP has been the topic of contention in the offseason. The starters have been pretty decent actually, 9 QS in 20 games.

A few of the other starts have been good starts, but don't meet the QS criteria.

Once Arizona gets some decent pitching, Trumbo should be an asset to them.

Matt Garza would currently be the 6th best starter on this team.  Still early obviously and by the end of the year he'll likely be the 3rd best among this collection, but this highlights exactly how productive Wilson, Richards, Santiago and Skaggs and been.  I fully expect Wilson and Richards to keep it up or even get better, and Santiago and Skaggs will have their good days and bad, but as it stands this rotation looks good.  Dipoto did a good job.

 

Now if the injury bug bites, that's where things might get dicey.  I trust Shoemaker and even Alvarez if its 1-2 starts and we only expect 5 IP and 4 ER.  Anything longer than that could put the Angels in trouble.

brooks baseball showed an inconsistent zone tonight as well.  Favoring the nats.  Skaggs was getting squeezed on the high outside corner.

It balances out. Roarke had at least 2 or 3 pitches right on the black the night before that should have been called third strikes.

I am not a Butcher apologist, but fair is fair.  Can we give him credit on how he is handling the three young pitchers.  No one thought they would do this well this year.

IIRC, Oakland had nine straight quality starts to open the season. But lately their bullpen has been letting them down. Familiar story.
