3 in the top 20. That's pretty amazing considering beckett and billingsley have been hurt all year. The angels have one pitcher in the top 50. Cj wilson at like 38. I don't believe weaver qualifies.

Tied at 3 in the 13th inning of a game in Lancaster that determines who goes home and who moves onto the Championship. 66ers have put together quite the display of stranding runners, but have also seen their pitching do quite the job of getting out of jams. http://tunein.com/player/station/31934/?partnerId=pe6Zjasg&utm_source=MILB&utm_medium=PopupLink&utm_content=PopupLink&utm_campaign=Inland_Empire_66ers

Dude is much better than he's shown with the Angels defensively thus far, but he showed right there why he's a better defender than some think.

I haven't seen this thread in a few days, so forgive me if this is a Craig from a couple weeks ago. The Yankees Levine said yesterday that Cano is not a "re-sign at all costs" player. In fact he said no player is. Assuming we trade Kendrick, do we have enough money to go after Cano and still be able to give Trout what he deserves? As one writer put it the other day, "if Arte has enough money to go buy land and build a new stadium on his own, he certainly can afford to do what he wants." A lineup of whatever gimp in LF, followed by Trout, Pujols, Cano, Hamilton, would be sick. I'd be find with Trumbo's .230 in the 6 hole followed by aybar and 3b and C (unle…

5 are former Halos, 6 if Vargas walks. 1 is top 3, 3 are top 13. Granted this is a weak class but if we can keep Vargas there should be a solid guy in there somewhere. Josh Johnson is a guy I would take a risk on.

I got into a debate with a co-worker (a fellow poster on this board) about the Angels' future. He believes the team needs to rebuild. I think the team can compete next year if it re-tools instead. I think the 2012/2013 Red Sox are a good example of this. Anyway, I ran some stats and was encouraged by what I found. The Angels' team ERA is currently 4.29. Blanton and Hanson are responsible for 131 of the 614 earned runs given up. Remove them from the equation, and replace them with a guy who gives you a 4.00 ERA (like another Vargas), and the team ERA drops all the way down to 3.99 (Indian and Yankee territory, both of which have been competitive this year). Ther…

Interview conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer One of the most interesting and compelling stories that I heard during my time with the Orem Owlz was that of Jonathan Van Eaton. How he came to pitch in the Angels organization was something out of a Hollywood script. I'll let him tell the story in his own words. It's a good thing that it all worked out for him in the end because while I was there, I saw a potential relief prospect who could move through the system. He had a plus slider and low 90s heat that really kept hitters on their toes. Some of the people with whom I spoke described his slider as one of the best in the organization. As a non-dr…

Kole Calhoun, listed at a very generous 5-foot-10, may not look the part of a traditional run producer. But since coming up to the Angels, he's been an RBI machine. During Wednesday night's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays, the Angels' red-headed spark plug drove in a couple of runs, including the game-winning one, via sacrifice flies. View the full article

The Kansas City Royals are in a win now mentality this season and next, so how about this: Erick Aybar for Christian Colon and a solid bullpen arm? Escobar has been terrible for them and cost them some games defensively as well this year. Colon a former CSF standout and #1 pick has a little pop/speed, but I really like his plate discipline unlike Aybar. I think he'd be a good #2 hitting in the lineup too. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=2B&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=518568

When Chris Nelson strained his right hamstring on Aug. 28, his season was all but guaranteed to be over. Only four and a half weeks remained, and the injury was the same one that cost Peter Bourjos nearly six weeks on the shelf. Now it looks like Nelson could be activated from the disabled list next week. View the full article

I personally am a big fan of Trumbo and would hate to see him leave the Angels. But, of course, if the offer's too good to be true, I can go along with a Trumbo trade. So, for me, it's about truely acessing Trumbo's value. From a sheer stats perspective, Trumbo is a productive player despite low OBP and OPS. But, his power numbers, 32 HR's 89 RBI's, are too big to ignore, considering that 32 HR's is top 5 in all of baseball and 89 RBI's ranks him 15th. And he leads the Angels in both categories. And, if you put Trumbo on the roster of a good number of teams, he would lead that team in HRs and RBIs. So, at the very minimum, I don't trade Trumbo unless we're getting …

In non-MLB news, Wladimir Balentien just hit HR #55, tying Sadoharo Oh for the record. He's going to break it, obviously. Balentien was a Mariners prospect five+ years ago. He never quite made it and looked like a quad-A hitter ala Dallas McPherson. It will be interesting to see if he decides to come to the States and have a major league career, or if he prefers all the Japanese 'tang he's getting.

He is supposed to have such a high baseball IQ yet he was wrong on platooning Kendrys and now Calhoun. Really can't wait until we dump this schmuck.

http://gradingonthecurve.com/2013/09/09/angels-shortstop-tommy-field-breaking/ Well Jason Mast just stole my thunder as I was working on a "Case for Tommy Field" article for AW.com. However Jason pretty much summarizes my feelings that Field could be a reasonable replacement for Aybar if we chose to trade him. One thing I would point out is that Mast talks about Field's poor 2012 which I think was definitely BABIP driven as Field posted a pretty low number which I'm sure helped to depress his slash line. Ringolsby, in early 2011, was the one who called Field the best defensive infielder in his Rockies prospect report and later in December Sickel's called Field…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 11, 2002 GAME 145 - A’S AT ANGELS ANAHEIM – For the Angels, Wednesday night's game against the Oakland A's was all about opportunity. Opportunity to move closer to first place in the American League West. Opportunity to increase their lead in the wild-card race. Opportunity to become the fifth team in Angels history to win 90 games in a season. After a superb performance by the bullpen and a clutch hit by Shawn Wooten, the Angels rallied for a 6-5 win before a spirited and patriotic crowd of 34,302 at Edison Field. The win moved the Angels to within one game of the A's in the West, with an opportunity …

We won, which I guess is cool, but we are now one game up on Toronto and with Colorado already down 3-0 will most likely stretch our lead to three games for the coveted 10 spot.
