He doesn't really do anything below average. Can hit the ball hard to all fields, average to above average power, good plate discipline, good contact ability, average to above average speed, in the long run I think his defense will be above average. Just a very good all around ball player. Deserves a spot on this team next year, no doubt about it.

OP was much better than Shuck. Shuck is more of a Davanon/Eric Owens type IMO.

Palmeiro played better defense, I think.  Walked more, too, which is undervalued if you look at OPS.

Jeff DaVanon was better than both.  The guy had a 3.2 WAR one year with 382 plate appearances.  1.7  the next year with 337 plate appearances.  People goofed on him because he looked silly striking out.  Amazing.  He was a solid hitter and defender.

Comparing Jeff DaVanon to the Angels' version of Eric Owens is a joke.

I always liked DaVanon. Dude hit for the cycle too.

I was at that game. It was ridiculous.  21-6, I think after Jose Molina hit a grand slam.  DaVanon was solid. It blows my mind when people compare him to some of the worst players in Angels history.  It is a classic story of a 26th round pick that walks a lot, doesn't scream "pro athlete" if you look at him, but he just plays good baseball.

Nice guy, too.  I think you may have been there.... he randomly said hello when he rounded third base on the practice field in Tempe.

Good call on DaVanon, he caught crap for no real reason other than being goofy looking.  I always thought it was funny he caught crap and the other guy he was traded with (Nathan Haynes), was talked up as a 5 tool prospect.

OP's defense was mediocre, a negative dWAR for his career, Jeff DaVanon was better in every way save for staying healthy.
