I haven't been excited about a player since Trout ... hope he is the real deal. I like the idea of Calhoun/Bourjos batting in front of Trout. I'm a little afraid where Hamilton fits into the equation on the field and in the lineup.

That's a big headscratcher to me. It obviously worked out real well.

Fangraphs Through 138 games played he's now at 9.8 - just 0.2 shy of last year's total. So if he has a really big game tonight he'll be on exactly the same pace. Also, his defensive value continues to rise - his Fld is now at +5.7. He's fully 2.5 fWAR ahead of Miguel Cabrera, who has dropped a bit to 7.3 due to poor defense (-16.6 Fld) and stalled hitting. McCutchen's third at 7.2, with Chris Davis at 6.5 and Josh Donaldson at 6.4. Its also worth noting that Trout's .338 BA is only 15 points behind Cabrera at .353. So if the trend continues, Trout has a chance of catching him for the batting title - although its probably pretty unlikely at this point. Basebal…

The Angels entered Thursday with 14 wins in their last 19 games but need more than a miracle to avoid a fourth consecutive postseason absence. In some ways, Jered Weaver believes they need to get back to their old style. View the full article

3 in the top 20. That's pretty amazing considering beckett and billingsley have been hurt all year. The angels have one pitcher in the top 50. Cj wilson at like 38. I don't believe weaver qualifies.

Tied at 3 in the 13th inning of a game in Lancaster that determines who goes home and who moves onto the Championship. 66ers have put together quite the display of stranding runners, but have also seen their pitching do quite the job of getting out of jams. http://tunein.com/player/station/31934/?partnerId=pe6Zjasg&utm_source=MILB&utm_medium=PopupLink&utm_content=PopupLink&utm_campaign=Inland_Empire_66ers

Boom! Love this kid. Hoping he makes the roster! 4. Kole Calhoun (OF) Bats: LeftThrows: Left Height: 5’9â€ 190 lbs. DOB: 10/14/87 (Salt Lake/Angels): .291/.352/.488 with 14 HRs and 13 SBs Kole Calhoun quietly puts up the numbers and demonstrates all the attributes managers love in a ball player, yet he gets overlooked by scouts who are concerned his 5'10 frame leaves little for projection. Oh but big things come in small packages, right? Calhoun has posted a .309/.396/.525 slash line in 294 minor league games and made his major league debut in 2012 in a reserve outfield role. A true blue collar ball player who possesses plate discipline and profession…

I haven't seen this thread in a few days, so forgive me if this is a Craig from a couple weeks ago. The Yankees Levine said yesterday that Cano is not a "re-sign at all costs" player. In fact he said no player is. Assuming we trade Kendrick, do we have enough money to go after Cano and still be able to give Trout what he deserves? As one writer put it the other day, "if Arte has enough money to go buy land and build a new stadium on his own, he certainly can afford to do what he wants." A lineup of whatever gimp in LF, followed by Trout, Pujols, Cano, Hamilton, would be sick. I'd be find with Trumbo's .230 in the 6 hole followed by aybar and 3b and C (unle…

5 are former Halos, 6 if Vargas walks. 1 is top 3, 3 are top 13. Granted this is a weak class but if we can keep Vargas there should be a solid guy in there somewhere. Josh Johnson is a guy I would take a risk on.

I got into a debate with a co-worker (a fellow poster on this board) about the Angels' future. He believes the team needs to rebuild. I think the team can compete next year if it re-tools instead. I think the 2012/2013 Red Sox are a good example of this. Anyway, I ran some stats and was encouraged by what I found. The Angels' team ERA is currently 4.29. Blanton and Hanson are responsible for 131 of the 614 earned runs given up. Remove them from the equation, and replace them with a guy who gives you a 4.00 ERA (like another Vargas), and the team ERA drops all the way down to 3.99 (Indian and Yankee territory, both of which have been competitive this year). Ther…
