I mentioned to my brother this week that the Angels need to look into offering daycare at the stadium on game days. Have you all noticed how young this team has gotten since the ASG? Recently we have had several games where we have had between 7 and 11 players with less than three years experience playing. Have you also noticed the 12-3 record in the last 15 games? I think it is time to say it out loud........Mike Scoscia can manage motivated players. I was of the opinion earlier this season that it was time for him to go. Now I am not so sure. These kids all want to stay in the bigs thus the motivation. Mike needs to be able to motivate ALL of his players to be successfu…

Don't tase me, Yarbrough! I wrote about my impressions of "Ya-Ya" in another thread. So I'll just copy and paste them here: I saw Yarbrough play for two weeks in June, and he hit everything in sight. His walkoff HR in extra innings was awesome. He's a natural hitter and hits well from both sides of the plate, but he obviously needs to show more patience. I think he has more raw power from the right side. He will occasionally chase pitches outside of the zone. He has gap-to-gap power that I think will develop and already has to some extent into HR power. He's able to spoil a lot of pitches and therefore see more pitches, which usually leads to good ABs and results.…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 8, 2002 GAME 142 - ANGELS AT ORIOLES BALTIMORE – As the Angels swept their way through Tampa Bay and Baltimore, they promised their minds were on the Devil Rays and Orioles. The Oakland A's could wait. But after beating the Orioles, 6-2, Sunday afternoon before 27,665 at Camden Yards for their 10th win in a row, the Angels have the A's right in front of them starting tonight, both in the standings and across the diamond in the opposing dugout at Edison Field. The Angels trail the A's by two/one game(s) in the American League West going into their four-game series. The Angels' 10-game streak matches the second-…

Hurt his shoulder diving into homeplate to score the winning run for the Bees the other night. He had been raking in AAA and I was excited about seeing him this Sept. with the Angels. Andy Marte separated his shoulder in Salt Lake’s win last night. An MRI scheduled 9/6 will reveal the severity of the injury, but it looks like he’s out of Game 3 at Las Vegas. At one point his shoulder had to be popped back into place. In any event, it doesn’t sound good…if Marte does play again this season, he’ll be playing in pain. This is horrible news not only for Salt Lake’s title hopes, but Marte’s prospects of a September call-up to the Angels. Stay tu…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - SEPT. 7, 2002 GAME 141 - ANGELS AT ORIOLES BALTIMORE – It wasn't the kind of game that will show up on their season highlight tape. But after the Angels committed nearly as many errors (three) as they had hits (five), they still came away with a 4-2, 10-inning victory over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night before 30,714 at Camden Yards. Angels starter Mickey Callaway took a shutout into the eighth inning only to watch his defense make two errors, leading to his departure and two unearned runs that tied the game at 2. The Angels, though, scored two runs in the 10th keyed by Chone Figgins' legs and Tim Salmon's bat…

By Grant Larsen, AngelsWin.com Baseball Columnist - For starters, sorry about the delay. My other obligations were a little too demanding over the last couple of weeks. When trying to determine the MVP of each league there aremany different possible scenarios to consider. Should we consider the bestplayer on the best team? Maybe the player putting up huge numbers on a badteam? Do we focus on old school stats or put more emphasis on the new school thinking? To me when we are talking about MVP, which is acronym for most valuable player, we are looking forthe player that is the most valuableto their respective team. That’s just my take. Furthermore, I understa…

Center fielder Peter Bourjos, a key part of Angels' 2013 plan, will have surgery on his broken wrist, ending injury-marred season. An injury plagued season in which Peter Bourjos spent more time on the disabled list than the active roster will end — fittingly, it seems — with surgery. View the full article
