Calhoun as long as he gets decent pt. notice he's been susceptible to high fastballs this spring. Hope that's not a big hole. I like schuck but he's got zero power.

They are both 25 year old, left-handed OF'ers. One's got more power, the other more speed and patience. If they can stick, either would make an intriguing candidate to bat second in the future.

As far as I know, yes.

 

And I haven't seen anything in any of the articles mentioning him being out of options either.

I was kidding about Wells but Bay would be one to consider being a veteran player. I know everyone here is rooting for Calhoun ... which is alright with me.

I kind of prefer Schuck for now. I think Calhoun might have more upside but J B would be a great backup for OF. He can play all three OF positions and if remember correctly Calhoun is only a corner guy, and first base backup. Schuck could also be a good pinch run candidate and his patience could make him a decent pinch hitter. I would not be sad if it was Calhoun but I'd rather see him work on his game in the minors.

Doubtful he was on the 40-man prior to 2011, so he probably has 1 option left.

I would say then that Calhoun to start in the minor to get everyday at bats.  And Shuck as backup, where he really has no place to play, and might be lucky to get one game in a week.  If you want a replacement in the OF, you go with Trumbo.  Same with first.  And with Conger scorching spring, he's probably your primary off the bench guy or DH when Trumbo goes into the field to give a guy a day off.  

 

IMO, Shuck may just be a placeholder for the start of the season, till Hall recovers.  Hall just has that veteran feel, and will then become the bench depth. And if a starting OF gets hurt, to the point of the DL, then you call up Calhoun to take the starting roll.

I'd go with Schuck, only because hearing Scioscia say "Schucky" sounds better than "Calhouny".

The potential with the bat is just so much greater than Shuck. Better arm, and slightly faster.
