So Texas was allowed to bid $50M on Darvish, but now everyone else is capped at bidding $20M for Tanaka (to the point that the Japanese club doesn't even have enough incentive to post him).

That makes perfect sense.

It's crazy to think about this:

He is about to be the highest paid player ever in Japanese baseball at $7 million. The posting fee is $20 million or roughly 3 times what the highest salary ever for that league is. So when Darvish brought in a $50 million posting fee that was about 10 times his salary. To put that in MLB terms, our highest salary was about $30 million, which today would be about $90 million post where two years ago it could have been $300 million. Would any of you sell Trout for $90 million? $300 million? Me either.
