Possible long term extensions for players other than Ohtani

Ohtani's comment about wanting to win tells me that he probably already has one foot out the door. I don't see him signing to stay on regardless of the offer. If that is in fact the situation, the Angels blew a golden opportunity to get maximum return at the trade deadline. A year of Ohtani is worth less than a year and a half.

Can't agree more on this. I know we're all hoping that we wake up to some text message where we lock him up for a decade, but I think that would have already happened if it was going to in the first place.

I can't imagine it hasn't been discussed... and that we don't have a deal in place because he politely declined.

And I've seen the argument on here that if we offer him a gillion dollars, he can't resist, because he might get hurt. With our luck I'm sure he'll get hurt juuuuust before the deadline next year.

I know this board is full of negativity lately, and people are probably sick of it. But it's hard to see this going down in a good way for us.

Other clubs also know that the Angels will have to take whatever they can get for Ohtani or risk receiving nothing when he walks. The offers are therefore likely to be not only less than what was offered before the trade deadline, but substantially so.

Everyone's mentality here is why we always need to go after the big splash in FA.  There is no risk to signing these young players to long term contracts.  I love what the Braves are doing. Detmers, Sandoval, Rengifo, Ward is who I sign long term.

Not so sure about Ward. He's already almost 29.
