Another micro-slump for Trout

Recommended Posts

Last five games: .190/.227/.190, 15 wRC+ iin 22 PA. He's not even taking walks...ice cold.

There seems to be a pattern to his performance. He'll crush it for a couple weeks, then struggle for a few games, maybe two or three, maybe a week, and then make adjustments and crush for another couple weeks.

To be honest, I've never following a player's day to day performance as closely so am not sure if this is the norm, or if this is just how Trout does things.

Either way, the dude sucks right now.

I know you've got him under a microscope this year but I don't recall him being this way to such an extent in previous years. For the most part he'd just start mashing until he got hurt, or the season ended.

I noticed he same last year. Interestingly enough, his hitting went up a level in 2017 and he's been a more streaky hitter since. Or rather, in past years he seemed to fade in August and September, whereas now he is more hot year-round, with little "ice ages" punctuating the hot phases.

It's a pattern for every player.  Get on a hot streak. You are due to cool off.  Get in a slump.  You are due to heat up.

Exactly. His highs this year have been so high that it's more noticeable when he has games like the last few.

However, if "Mike Trout's performance at the plate" is in your top 50 concerns for the 2019 Angels, I don't know what to tell you.

It’s almost like he makes an out 70 percent of the time.

Or when he doesn’t walk, so like 54 percent of the time.

(Last year he had a 2-13, a 1-22 and a 6-40.... all before the All star break. If he never cooled off, he’d be a .400 hitter instead of a .300 hitter.)

I mean, that’s kind of what we are expecting.

pulling off the ball a little.

they're pitching him in a ton this year and he's gone through a couple spells of trying to accommodate that pitch or where it's been effective on him.  Then he goes a couple games where he gets himself out away on pitches he normally crushes because his front side gets out of whack a bit.

He'll go on a walk streak and hit some line drives then catch fire after the ASB.
