What If The Current League And Playoff Structure Existed Then...

Just as a curiosity, I went back over the Angels records since inception to see where the Angels would have stood had the current league structure and playoff structure would have been in place then.  What I found was rather staggering to me.

 

The Angels would have made the playoffs 5 times in the 60's (62, 64, 65, 66, and 67), twice in the 70's (78 and 79), 5 times in the 80's (82, 84, 85, 86, and a wildcard berth in 89), only once in the 90's with a wildcard berth in 90, and then 6 playoff appearances in the 00's.

 

Not that it matters, it was just something that I found, shall we say, interesting.

 

I also noticed a pattern that the even decades were successful while the odd ones were dreadful (granted, there were only 3 teams in the "West" in the 60's).

 

Anyway, take that for what you will.
