This just shows that no matter how good you are, it's still a team sport for the W.S.

But Hall of Fame isn't about the team you are on.  It's about how good you were for the entirety of your career.  In most cases, a career that is over 15 years.

I'd take Blue.  Because Hall of Fame in the MLB means you were one of the all time greats.  And while it's not him.  I would take 0 MVP, .338 career average Gwynn vs someone who lucked into 5 WS championships.

We've had a few MVPs but only one WS. Give me more championships any day of the week.

Given our history, there really shouldn't be any debate about this.

I took it to mean which player would you rather have -- not the actual rings.    Luis Sojo was on the roster of 5 WS teams...   I can't see anyone taking Luis Sojo over any HOF caliber player.

That makes it a easy decision ... obviously

Honestly I would enjoy a run of championships rather than have Ernie Banks in my line up. The goal is to win championships not to enjoy one player.

You're not understanding the question.

Well, if the conversation is what would you rather have.... a great player or rings?   the decision is just as easy...

Right!

If the question was: "As a fan, which player would you rather have on the team that you follow?" then I hope everyone here would choose the red pill.

If the question is read correctly,  "Who's career would you prefer to have?" I'm sure 99% of everyone here would choose the blue pill.

The 1% is for the board trolls, of course.

Honestly it's a vague meme..   A person could easily interpret it to mean -- you get to pick one.  You take the red pill you become this -- you take the blue pill you become this...   If that was the case, I'd ask if there was a purple pill that would let me be Tim Salmon...

Dude was a well above average player who brought fans of his team their first ever WS..   Fish looked awfully happy taking that trophy on a tour of the ballpark..   What a great, happy, career...

As a player (yourself) which career would you rather have when you retire.

Well, I guess if a player was good enough to start on 5 WS winning teams and win some GG's he was a pretty solid player..    I think winning would trump everything as a player...  But' I've talked a lot of shit about Disar over the years so, I'd hope that .250 average came with a really good OBP at least...  :)

Either way -- chances are pretty good I'd collect the MLB pension so, retirement would be a happy one.

Good conversation starter, TD...

Ok so would anyone here trade Trout for 5 championships if it was  guaranteed?

Go ahead and shoot. :P

Yes it's a dumb hypocritical question but I'm kinda curious about what's really more important to the fans. Having a great and maybe THE greatest player or winning several championships without THE greatest player.
