For those who haven't seen (or in angelswin-speak, for those THAT haven't seen) it, here is the billboard.  It says stuff like "11 World Series Appearances"  and "4 World Series Championships".

What isn't written is that those were made for other teams.  Whoop-de-damn-doo.

YK,

I think that's the billboard off the 5 Fwy in Commerce, right?     If so, that's a pretty clear shot of the billboard from about Tempe.    Awesome high res photo.

The saddest thing is the only way you can get up to 11 appearances is if you count 2011 twice (since current angels were involved on both sides of that series) and also include world series where Iannetta was playing for the Rockies, Blanton was playing for the Phillies, and Fat Man was playing for the Dodgers:

2011 - Cardinals / Rangers appeared (Pujols, Hamilton, CJ, Lowe)

2010 - Rangers (Hamilton, CJ)

2009 - Phillies (Blanton)

2008 - Phillies (Blanton)

2007 - Rockies (Iannetta)

2006 - Cardinals (Pujols)

2004 - Cardinals (Pujols)

2002 - Angels (Scioscia)

1988 - Dodgers (Scioscia)

1981 - Dodgers (Scioscia)

I'm pretty sure nobody on our active roster was involved in World Series in 2003, 2005, or before 2002. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

At least these players, overpaid or not, are still worth watching.  Remember when this team's "big name" acquisitions consisted of Cecil Fielder, Eddie Murray, Jack McDowell, and Bo Jackson after like ten major knee operations?  Granted, we weren't paying them much...but still.  I don't think I'll ever be able to wipe clean the stains those nightmarish memories left on my young and impressionable mind.

In regards to the marketing department: I'm with you, YK.  They're awful.  But is this really anything new?  I mean, the "take me out to A ballgame" cover by Bristol to Memory is worse than nails on a chalkboard; the concept of "Angel girls" is ridiculous on so many levels; the outfield wall at the Big A probably has more advertisements than the combined outfield walls of every other stadium in major league baseball.  I understand that some of this is necessary in order to maintain the cost of players salaries and stadium upkeep--but at what point does the integrity of the game come into question?

I started watching when the biggest acquisition (in every sense of the word) was Mo Vaughn.
