The race for #3

That mock draft nailed us.  Nick Gordon seems like a toolsy light hitting middle infielder :)

I was thinking the same thing. Here's brief write up on him.

18. Nick Gordon, SS/RHP, Olympia HS (FL)

The son of  Tom “Flash” Gordon, Nick also can sling it on the mound (92 mph) but may have a brighter future at shortstop, where his strong arm, range and instincts will make him one of the better defensive shortstops in the 2014 MLB draft. Offensively, he hits from the left side and projects to a top-of-the-order hitter with speed and a very good approach at the plate. Over 30 games as a junior, he hit .505 with 15 doubles, six triples and 12 stolen bases. Committed to Florida State.

Another Aybar. Hopefully they get higher than #8.

And the astros would have to get unbelievably hot (by their standards, at least).   As hard as it is to fathom, we're 14 games ahead of them in the standings.

imagine being a fan of that team!

I would rather be an Astros fan than an Angels fan right now. They have a loaded farm system with smart people running their organization (rebuilding the right way). The Angels, not so much. By 2016 the Astros will be contending for a WS with their young talent. They are going to be loaded.

Looks like some good power arms in the '14 draft.  7 of the top 10 are pitchers.  1 of the 3 position players is a catcher.  Looks like we'll either draft a great pitch or the top catcher.

Now trade Vargas, and get another first round pick.  Load up.

Isn't Beede the same guy with a 101/63 Ks/BBs ratio for Vandy in 2013?

How the heck does that = #2 overall pick?

" Over 16 starts, he is 14-0 with a 2.20 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 101 K/60 BB over 98.1 innings, allowing just 57 hits. He has an effortless delivery and the ball jumps out of his hand. He features a classic three-pitch mix with a mid-90s plus fastball with great movement, a plus power curveball and a deceptive change-up that freezes hitters. The one knock on him is his control, which can get wild at times, but once he harnesses that, hitters will have no chance of getting on base. I feel with his size, stuff and fluid delivery, he has the most upside of any college pitcher in the 2014 MLB draft. "
