OC Register: Defense witness list in Eric Kay trial includes 7 former Angels

Lawyers representing Eric Kay could call up to seven former Angels players to testify in defense of the former PR staffer who will be on trial next week in connection with the death of former Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

A day after the federal court in Texas released the prosecution’s witness list, which included seven former Angels players, the defense’s list was released. It included three of the same players, in addition to Justin Bour, Trevor Cahill, Noé Ramirez and Andrelton Simmons. Both sides included Cam Bedrosian, C.J. Cron and Blake Parker on their lists.

It is possible that none of the players would be called by either side in the trial, which begins on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas. Kay is charged with distribution of drugs, and distribution of drugs that led to a death. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

According to the document provided by Kay’s attorneys, the players called to testify by the defense would be speaking to their interactions with Kay and Skaggs, and the events in the 24 hours before Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room.

An autopsy showed Skaggs had a mixture of alcohol and opioids – oxycodone and fentanyl – in his system.

The 35 names on the defense witness list include two other Angels employees: traveling secretary Tom Taylor and mental skills coach Will Lezner. Taylor would testify about the demeanor of Kay and Skaggs, as well as the events leading up to Skaggs’ death. Lezner would testify about his “interactions and communications” with Skaggs.

I can see them shifting blame for the fentanyl poisoning to Harvey. There is probably no way to know unless they tested any left over pills or ground up Percocet.

Unless the pills had Harvey’s ass residue from him keestering them in, I doubt they can tie him to it.
