Well I cant afford an overly expensive one...but i gotta replace my $200 5.1 set i bought from Amazon 7 years ago. lol

 

My buddy recommends Klipsh RB-51ii's bookshelfs and a RC-52 center with the sw110 sub.

 

Any of you guys have preferences or recommendations?

I like the Infinity surround setups but they all start at around 600.  JBL is their lower end.  Here is a complete setup including sub:

IMO it is never a good idea to mix speakers so you should get the same center speaker as you do bookshelfs.  The sub can be another brand.  Honestly I don't know much about low end speaker systems so I am probably not much help.

Thats kinda what i got now.  Its nice but wanna move up. i dont mind paying about 300 to 400 per center/ pair of bookshelfs/ sub.

Cheapest Infinity system I could price out was $1100, sorry lol.  Just get a higher end JBL kit.

So what did you get?  The copper-colored drivers with horn tweeters look like Klipsch

 

I was going to recommend that whatever you choose, make sure you get a system that has room correction (e.g. Audyssey) this is extremely important.

No offense man but that is a pretty big eyesore.  IMO surround systems should be understated.

No offense taken. Everyone who's seen it loves the look.  Better then my dinky small ass infinity speakers before that sounded terrible. lol

nate, wisconsin state laws don't allow for such big speakers. you have to go for something smaller, but if you really want to get around their strict speaker size laws, you have to disguise them.

Mine is much more understated.  Ignore the black cable on the floor.  I was changing out the cable for the subwoofer.
