I'll tune in to watch Mike Trout.  If the game becomes interesting, I'll continue to watch - but most likely, I'll just head out to dinner after they take Trout out.  If it's interesting, I might have dinner where the game is on.  The game is secondary to me.  I'm more interested in the stories we learn about the players during the game.

Maybe.  Or name recognition.

Ir if you happen to play in Chicago, New York, Houston or Boston.  That seems to help players get selected.

What popular guys made it that shouldn’t have? I mentioned the three above, not exactly household names in 2019. Then for the AL you have reserves like James McCann, Brandon Lowe, tommy la Stella, and Austin meadows. Probably there based on merit, and they’re not their teams lone representative. Pitcher wise you have guys like Lucas Giolito and Shane Bieber. Most of America likely isn’t clamoring to see those guys. 

 

I think the popularity contest argument gets thrown out there because you occasionally have an extra Boston or New York guy on the roster.
