The Oculus Rift has lots of potential and is pretty much the leader in a practically untapped market so this move really comes as a surprise to me.  I'm sure the vast majority of gamers will be disappointed with this news.  It'll be very interesting to see what John Carmack thinks of this move and to see if he ends up staying with the company.

What's hilarious though are the Kickstarter backers who are bitching that Oculus sold-out, as in crowd-funding was an investment.

Nope. It's not investing. It's charity. You basically donated to those guys.

They took $2.4m from all those thousands of people, giving up 0% equity in the company, sent them a t-shirt, built a team/product, then sold the company for $2b.

Amazing.

haha, this is sick and true.

 

i've thought about doing ridiculous kickstarter projects, or ones i wouldn't start with my own money.

 

there will always be a market in using other peoples money however you see fit.
