I watched a few innings of the Dodger game today and it's amazing how many pitches their hitters see in the course of a game. Hanley Ramirez had a great 11-pitch AB before being retired. They foul pitches off, they let bad pitches go by, and make opposing pitchers work. The only exception is Puig, but even he is improving his plate discipline. 

 

Our guys seem to roll over time and time again against mediocre-to-bad pitchers.

I think this team struggles against shitty pitchers not only because of poor scouting, but because of their hacking, impatient philosophy at the plate. Crappy pitchers can't get away with throwing stuff out of the zone against patient teams, because their stuff is simply not good enough to fool anyone, so they are forced to throw pitches in the strike zone and get pounded. The Angels on the other hand swing away at anything and get themselves out. Then why do they seem to do well against good pitchers like King Felix? Possibly because good pitchers are able to stay in the zone and get outs, and that works to the Angels advantage in many cases. Plus, it seems they scout those pitchers better.

 

This theory is based on absolutely nothing.
