Washers and Dryers

Recommended Posts

Continuing my theme of "I no longer produce testosterone" (like where it was my idea to stay home NYE) and piggybacking my vacuum thread.

Recently my washer basically died. Spin cycle wouldn't work, and kept leaking on the ground every wash. (Thankfully it's in the garage).

I was due for a new set. Bought mine used off some old man like 10 years ago... which I assume he owned for 20 years before me.

Anyway, I assume the dog hair (don't get shepherds) killed my washer.

So black friday I went shopping, told myself just get basic shit. None of that wahoo computer shit.

So then I got duped into the most expensive set (obviously). Maytag.

.... it's black so it felt cool.

More important, this model specializes in pet hair.

It's not even close to a gimmick.

We have a blanket we throw on top of the bed for our stupid dogs to lay on at night. We wash it every week. Always comes out with hair still on it.

This thing....

.... right out of the wash you can tell its got no hair.

Then you clean the filter. And it's like a barbershop floor.

Like I said in the vacuum thread, life comes at you fast.

Several years back when we were looking for a W/D set, I remember reading that any Whirlpool models from 2010 or earlier are the way to go. That was before they became computerized and they're known for lasting several decades.

Also, top loading washers are far superior to side loaders. They work better and are easier to clean and fix.

We ended up buying a set off Craigslist for $160. Then moved a couple years later to a place that came with W/D. Resold our set for $200.

Last year I replaced my 36 year old Kenmore Gas Dryer.  The timer had quit working many years ago.  Two years ago I replaced the drum belt.  The roller bearing finally gave up last year.

The old dryer had a pull down door, which provided an intermediate space for items going in or coming out.

The new dryer has a door that opens from the side.  If I ever purchase another dryer, I will make sure it has the pull down door.

Yeah. The computer stuff they pack them with now (same as kitchen appliances) have all kinds of problems, specific to the computers. They look cool but don't last.

It's funny how you don't think of that until you end up with one that doesn't have it.

Whenever my wife tells me we need a new large appliance she knows we are headed to the Sears Outlet.  WTF do I care if it has a dent on the side.  I’m saving $40.

That’s a “life hack” right there that some woman on the front page of yahoo will never mention.

But it’s good advice for all men who have any control at home.

(sorry @Taylor)

Holy crap @ten ocho recon scout.  You’ve hit two legs of “topic trifecta” with your vacuum and washer and dryer threads.

If you start another one about ovens or ranges, I have lost all faith in manhood.

PS—any thread or talk about BBQ’s or Smokers does not count towards the trifecta.
