As a player, he was known mainly for his time with the Dodgers and Expos (he was an All-Star with both the Expos and Blue Jays), he finished his career with the Angels in 1978, and then started his broadcast career with the club after that season.

He was a high school friend, of my oldest friends father. 

I've known about the friendship since I was about 12.
