I think 3/39 is a bit much, even for a guy like Maybin.  I do love his OBP skills, and the fact that he is an excellent baserunner.  I would probably consider 4/44 for Maybin, that way if there is a decline in the 4th year, he could become our 4th OF, with one of Jones, Marsh, or Adell being nearly ready to take over.

3/39 is only 2 million a year more than 4/44 and you are saving an extra contract year. The fewer years you give a player, the more money you will have to pay.

Except the NL.

Not as competitive as the AL but, when you get past either the Dodgers or DBacks, one of whom is 9 games ahead in the first WC slot, there are 6 teams still within shouting distance of the second WC slot (within 3 1/2 games)....Phils and Giants are way back, Reds and Pads are 5 and 7 games back for the second slot....lots can and will happen before the end of the July.....kind of a weird break down in the NL but that second wild card is still up for grabs....

The 2nd wild card spot is held by one or the other. If say, the Dodgers win tonight, they will be 1/2 a game ahead of the Dbacks, who will then hold the 2nd WC spot. The next closest team is Chicago who are 9 games back of the 2nd wild card.

The Rockies are in first place in the NLW, the Dodgers and the Dbacks are tied for the 2 wild cards. The Cubs are 9 games behind in the race for the second and last wild card spot. The Cubs have  better shot at the division than at a wild card.

My bad....misread the standings....long way to October but looks likely that the NL West has 3 playoff teams and the rest of the league likely has a chance only if they win their division....So, entire AL is in the hunt but not the NL, as Dawg said...trading much more likely with AL clubs if you're selling....if you're buying, look to the NL...
