Nick Maronde's walk rate used to be good

Any of you minor league guru's have an explanation for the increase in Maronde's walk rate after they moved him to the bullpen.  He walked 2.9 per 9 in the Pioneer League, 2.2 in the California League, and 0.8 in the Texas League when he was starting.

Butchy got a hold of him.

Nah but seriously, Butcher told him to nibble more.

Nah but really though, Michael Butcher, pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, gave him some less than reputable advice.

And Butcher said "let there be balls," and there were balls.

Butcher saw that the balls were bad, and his relievers could not separate the literal from the figurative.

Butcher called the balls "bad" and something something throw strikes you idiots.

His velocity went down as well for some reason. Was it 2012 when he came up and was throwing like 94-95 with a high 80's sharp slider? Now he throws like 90-92

yeah.  he definitely looks broken and it certainly seems like a mechanical issue.  He's still only 24 so hopefully he can work it out......in AAA.
