Jerry Remy's son charged with murder

Jared Remy is the son of former Red Sox player and current broadcaster Jerry Remy.

 

The victim was the mother of their 4-year old daughter, who was home at the time. Horrible.

I was going to put this on the main forum, but placed it here by mistake. 

 

Jerry Remy played for the Angels for three years before going to Boston.

I heard the breaking story on this earlier this afternoon while driving home. At first I thought they were saying that Remy himself had been charged with murder. Apparently this was witnessed, so the defense has no case.

The killing was vicious in the extreme. A neighbor tried to pull him off the victim as he was stabbing her and almost got killed himself.

Jared Remy allegedly stabbed Martel on the patio of their home a day after he was released from custody in a separate assault case against her. Martel told police after that incident that Remy had slammed her face into a bathroom mirror during an argument.

 

The younger Remy was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, but was released Wednesday morning after Martel chose not to extend a restraining order against him.

 

The Boston Globe has reported that Martel’s decision not to pursue the restraining order came under pressure from members of Remy’s family. Martel’s mother told the Globe that Jennifer was asked by Remy’s mother not to file any kind of complaint because it would ruin Remy’s life.

He had a long history of extreme abuse against at least three different women, the third of whom he savagely killed.

To have one of your parents imprisoned serving life without parole for killing the other one is an unimaginable situation for a child. I can only hope that there will be strong surrogate parental figures to aid her as she grows up.

His change of plea does not affect district court assault charges he has pending for assaulting a convicted sex offender at Cambridge Jail, nor an investigation into his alleged attack on a correction officer guarding him in solitary confinement.

 

What a sweetheart this guy is.
