Gameday Thread: (8/23/23 Game 1 1pm) Reds @ Angels: Ohtani on the mound, no Trout or Schanuel

I'm assuming if Trout doesn't start Game 1, he wouldn't play in Game 2, either. 

Also, Erica Weston seems to indicate there's some other potential lineup issue/decision, too:

That's such an awful lineup.

Can't tell if they're actually trying to put on the field what they think gives them the best chance to win the game or are they punishing Schanuel for last night's errors? What a way to ruin his confidence. He's 21, he can play both games of a DH just as a bunch of the other 8 in the lineup are going to have to.

Trout should've been shut down for the rest of the year to not risk further injury. Play Moniak and figure out if he's going to snap out of it. Figure out if he's going to be anything for this team going forward. Now is the time for that as there's nothing to play for. Well, look, since Trout was rushed back for a lost season now Moniak is forced to play.

Screw Nevin and his entire coaching staff. They all need to go.

Also, mildly surprised that O'Hoppe is catching a day game after a night game, but maybe Ohtani really doesn't like throwing to Thaiss.

Everyone has said Trout can't do additional damage to his wrist by playing (as I understand it, the bone he broke has actually been removed).  It's just pain tolerance, as the tweet I posted earlier indicated.

That said, yes, it's disappointing that he's already sore.  Sarah Valenzuela tweeted that Nevin indicated Trout missing the first game of the DH doesn't mean he won't play the 2nd game, so I guess we'll see.

THIS!  I'm sure Trout wants to play, and the fans want to see him, but it's too great a risk, given there is really nothing to play for, other than perhaps a .500 record.

What's the risk?  He's just sore.  The doctors said he can't do any more damage to his wrist.
