The first baseman goes hitless and strikes out with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. His teammates also generate little offense against Hiroki Kuroda. NEW YORK — It has been overshadowed by Josh Hamilton's season-long slump, Albert Pujols' foot injury and the ongoing struggles of the back of the rotation and the entire bullpen, but it's impossible to overlook: View the full article

This is what the "strike zone" looks like. Please note how it does not extend above your head or a foot further outside. Thanks.

A caller to Angel Talk the other day said that Hamilton uses the heaviest bat in MLB. Is that true? If so, WHY?????? He can't catch up to fastballs much of the time, even in the zone. I've seen a lot of weak swings from him this year.

Houston just broke up Darvish's perfect game with two outs in the 6th inning with a walk. No-hitter still intact.

With the help from Hamiltown, there are group tickets available for Fanfest. They will be in the best seats in the house, Right Field. Better yet, they are only $10 each. We are only guaranteed 25 at that price so these will be first come first serve. Add yourself to the list if you want in and I'll send you a PM for payment info. I expected more from Hamilton, but in some ways Trumbo's is more disconcerting. He's had some really bad slumps over the last seasons just when I hoped he'd prove more than a homerun or nothing type player.

To sum up the AL West and the Angels season -- look at the W/L stats vs. the doormat Houston Astros. Texas season record vs. Astros: 11-2 (2-1 Home; 9-1 Road at Houston) 6 Home games left vs. Houston at Arlington. Oakland season record vs. Astros: 11-1 (3-0 Home; 8-1 Road at Hou.) 7 Home games left vs. Houston at Raiders Park. LA Angels of ANA. rec vs. Astros: 6-7 (2-5 Home; 4-2 Road at Hou.) 3 Home, 3 Road games left vs. Houston, That FOUR GAME SWEEP by the Astros at ANAHEIM was perhaps the lowest point of a lot of low points this season. If the Halos perform to the level of the A's or Texas against Houston -- Angels are at least then at .500 for t…

Jason Vargas had been a valuable part of the Angels' rotation, but in mid-June, a blood clot was discovered in the pitcher's armpit area and surgery was required. Vargas will return to the Angels on Tuesday night against CC Sabathia and the Yankees, and although the left-hander won't solve all of their problems, they are excited to get him back. Garrett Richards continued to pitch well in the Angels' rotation, stifling the Yankees for eight innings with his wicked fastball-slider combination while notching a complete game. But Hiroki Kuroda was almost unhittable. The Yankees' Japanese right-hander was on point Monday night, hurling eight scoreless innings to hand the Angels a 2-1 loss in the Bronx that moved them a season-high 15 games back of first place in the American League West. It's one thing to cheat, but when cheating helps cost the Angels the AL Pennant, that's when I get upset. I realize A Rod wasn't the only contributing factor but here are some stats. Remember, the Angels lost the series 4-2. Alex Rodriguez 2009 ALCS Stats- BA- .429 9 for 21 RBI- 6 HR- 3, Including a game saving home run in Game 2 off Brian Fuentes, Yankees eventually won in 13 innings And in Game 6, A Roid went 2-2 and was walked 3 times. Sorry, but had to vent. In 2009, I thought we had the best team in the world, and after hearing about the bio genesis, I thought about him tearing through the playoffs in 2009 and knocking us out, costing us the pe…

Angels 22-year-old superstar Mike Trout typically shies away from controversial topics, but he had a firm stance on players using performance-enhancing drugs while speaking to a New York radio station on Monday morning. "For me personally," Trout told WFAN's Boomer and Carton Show, "I think you should be out of the game if you get caught." View the full article

Mark Trumbo has already exceeded his previous career high in walks, his strikeout percentage is lower than it was in 2012 and he's hitting line drives with more frequency than ever. Yet his batting average heading into Monday's series opener was an unsightly .237. Trumbo puts the onus primarily on himself, but he also doesn't feel like he's had a lot of luck with balls falling in -- and his batting average on balls in play reflects that. View the full article

I'm vacationing in South Africa, and unfortunately a straight up insomniac right now. Tonight's game starts at 1:00am local, and should end before I have to be 'up' at 4:00am. I've got the MLB app on my phone, but it's wifi reception is way too spotty, however, my exceedingly not-updated iPod touch maintains connection like a champ. How do I make this work?

"(Nelson) took care of business with the bat, and the way he swings it, and also with making sure he catches the ball at third base and that he has been doing for the Anyels, especially to going to his right. He has been showing a rifle of an arm, he is pretty much accurate."

Post your predictions here for season game #117, 8/12/13 vs. the New York Yankees. Game time is 4:05 pm PST. The probable pitchers are Richards ® vs. Kuroda ®. Winners from game #116, 8/11/13 vs. the Cleveland Indians are shown below. An updated Predictions Scoreboard is also shown below, and in the Rules Thread above. There was a slight revision made to the Predictions Scoreboard posted earlier today due to the non-inclusion of Aug. 10 results. Only 6 points were scored on that day, so the standings are only slightly altered. They are now correct. Thanks to Ochocinco! for noticing. 4 Points, 2 Points None 3 Points Ray McKigney (Hamilton 1-4…

I need help. With so much talk of Scioscia being fired or should be fired I have tried search online what managers have been fired that still was owed money on their contract. I found a couple that were fired with one year left. Bobby Valentine was fired after one year, so I assume he had a couple of years at least on his contract. Scioscia has five years on his contract and is owed 25 million after this year. I was wondering if any of your guys have the expertise to find out what was the largest buy out of a manager's contract? Thanks for your help.

As the former head coach of the Millville (N.J.) High School baseball team, Jeff Trout still remembers coaching third base while his son Mike -- less than 5 years old at the time -- spent the duration of nearly every game hitting in the batting cage adjacent to the field. View the full article

In a game that asks so much of its sophomores, in terms of the litany of adjustments that must be made the more the league gets to know you, how has Mike Trout improved upon an age-20 season that was nothing short of historic? View the full article

And, rightfully so. When it comes down to it, Scioscia has a ring, Dipoto doesn't. Scioscia can only work with what he's got, and what he's got is about as good as an AW.com over 40 year old all-star team. I mean, I was as excited when we got Pujols, CJ, and Hamilton. But, it just hasn't worked out. To me, Jerry is nothing more than an extension of Reagins, the bad Reagins, and arguably worse. At least, Reagins made decent signings. Here's another wonderful decision by our wonderful GM: Hunter .312, .343, .477, .820 Hamilton .218, .275, .404, .679 Blanton - Strike One Greinke - Strike Two Hamilton - Strike Three, Sit Down, Jerry

By Jessica Melendez, AngelsWin.com Feature Writer - You guys, the Angels suck this year. No two ways about it! I've been meaning to write this post for the last few months but I have kept putting it off. Every few days I thought, “this is it, this is where the Angels turn it around and I can just write something super happy and fun instead!â€ And then, you know, this season kept happening. But what’s the real problem? I’m sure everyone has an opinion. Pitching. Consistency. Everything. All of these are valid answers. But in my opinion, the biggest problem is a lack of team building. There’s no chemistry. It’s like watching a romantic comedy s…
