From an article about Mike Trout from last year in Sports Illustrated: So it was that I broached the subject of Trout with Beane, who is the general manager of one of the 21 clubs who passed on him, as his A's used the 13th pick in '09 on a highly regarded USC shortstop named Grant Green. Beane's demeanor is almost always courtly, and our conversation in his spring training office in Phoenix had been breezy, until I mentioned Trout. Then I saw the first licks of the fire that burns beneath his calm exterior, which has been documented on both page and screen. "He was one of our guys, actually," Beane said. "He was one of the three guys we were talking about draftin…

Bourjos, Trumbo/Cron, Grichuk and Kendrick Too much? Not enough? We have too many outfielders. Trumbo stinks. Kendrick's money is off the books. And Grichuk has no place up here if Calhoun and Trout are around. Keep Vargas with the spare money from Kendrick Weaver Price Wilson Vargas Richards

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/70717/mike-trouts-ridiculous-encore-performance "According to Elias Sports Bureau, Trout is the first player in modern MLB history with 50-plus home runs and 70-plus steals before turning 22." "Trout has improved his batting average, OBP, and slugging percentage, hitting .331/.424/.574. He leads the American League in hits and walks, and he's tied for first in triples and runs scored. Again adjusting for park effects, he's been the third-best hitter in the majors, creating 77 percent more runs than the average hitter, trailing only Cabrera and Chris Davis." "Trout's on pace to rack up his second consecutive …

Its still a few months away, but any surprises? I don't think it will happen, but would love to see Lindsey get a few major league at-bats. I imagine Matt Long and Andrew Romine will be up, Luis Jimenez if healthy. For pitchers, Jeremy Berg, Chad Cordero, maybe Matt Shoemaker. Anyone else?

Hello fellow dejected fans, This is a blatant self-serving post (Chuck approved) to share with you a baseball related project I've been working on — a 31-poster serigraph series of all 30 MLB ballparks plus one 'index' print. The project is hosted on Kickstarter seeking backers. Kindly have look and please share with everyone you know. I truly appreciate it! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/louspirito/thirty81-the-ballpark-poster-series

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Contributor - This season has had more than its share of disappointmentsfor Angel’s fans and one of the biggest disappointments has been the strugglesof Josh Hamilton at the plate. Simply put Josh has been swinging at a lot of pitchesoutside of the strike zone and, when he does put the ball in play, he has nothit the ball quite as hard and it has not found as many holes as it normallyhas for him in the past. Additionally, Hamilton has faced an increasing number ofoff-speed pitches and has had particular trouble with sinkers, curveballs, andespecially changeups. So what does this mean now and in the future for Josh? Will…

So there are 50 games left and the team is 12 games out of a wildcard berth, 13 games out of 1st. Barring a miracle, the Angels won't make the postseason - and they've pretty much known this for a couple weeks now. But the season isn't over; in fact, its only just past two-thirds done, so there's a lot of games left. In early August the Angels find themselves in a position they haven't been much in the last decade: a lot of "meaningless" games to play - just like almost the entire decade of the 90s. Even in 2011 and 2012, the Angels were still in the hunt deep into the year; since 2002, only in 2003 and 2010 were they clear out by early August. So here' s the ques…

It's time to scrap this plan and start handing out pink slips to all those you trusted. This team had no heart from the start. Spring Training set the tone and was a pretty good gauge on how this team played all season long.

I noticed no one mentioned his postgame comments citing changes he said would be made if things don't improve. http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=29496599&topic_id=27334974&c_id=ana Generally, people here are quick to criticize, saying he says the same thing, i.e., stale cliches about tipping caps and coming out of his hand well. He's a patient sort which is why his players generally like him, but I think many here see that as weakness. Just wanted to cite the other side that's not mentioned often enough here.

Obviously Ernasty isn't so nasty anymore who do we put there? Kohn, Jep, or Blanton? I've heard some whisper about Blanton trying to close games out but I'm not sure how this would work. Also with Vargas coming back that would mean a move to the bullpen, Williams or Richards would be out there again so one of them could give it a shot.

Blanton was moved to the bullpen on July 23rd. It was against Minnesota on July 23rd that Frieri got blown up for 5 ER in a third of an inning after a fairly lengthy stretch of dominance. Since then Blanton has been throwing up zeros, while Frieri has a 20 ERA with opponents hitting .500 off him. The mounting evidence can only lead us to one conclusion...
