Not sure if this is a Craig, but worth mentioning. It will be interesting to see how this plays out with the players. Its not just that A-Rod used roids, but with many layers: 1) He used roids 2) He lied about it 3) He tried to cover up the evidence 4) Even after all that, he appealed his suspension 5) He tried--and succeeded in--bringing down others with him One and two are not good but forgivable, and "strike two," because that's what everyone else did - or at least those who were caught. But strike five? I personally think we're seeing A-Rod's last games, and that it may be that the reason he's appealing the year and a half sentence is that he knows he …

Leading his team to the playoffs. Although, it's not official, it's a given that the Dodgers make the playoffs. That's what it all comes down to in the end. Does your team win? But, seriously. It would be my worst nightmare if the Dodgers win the WS this year. Have to hear all this Puigmania even more. And, then ESPN, kisses their ass for 10 more years. And, we'll still be stuck with Trout and the rest of the bums. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/los-angeles-dodgers-now-favorites-win-world-series-172835768.html

Trout's reached 8 fWAR. The Angels still have 43 games to play, so Trout's on pace for almost 11 WAR. But given that he could slow down and miss some games towards the end of the year, I think he's a safe bet to finish somewhere in the 10-11 range. As I've noted elsewhere, Trout will be the first player to have two years in a row of 10+ fWAR since Barry Bonds. Before Bonds you have to go back to Willie Mays. Yes, that Willie Mays. But let's look at this differently. Number of active position players with a single 8+ fWAR season: 10 or 11 (as below, plus Helton, Kemp, Wright, Zobrist, Beltre, Ellsbury; probably Cabrera) Number of active position players two…

Honestly, this guy is just not good enough at what he does to be the guy in charge. He seems like a smart guy in interviews and everything, but his track record is just...wow. Reagins ****ed the whole organization up with the Wells trade, and the way he neglected the farm system. All Dipoto has done is make things worse...much worse. The Blanton move might not even be his worst move. He gave up a cost controlled, now dominant reliever in Jordan Walden for damaged goods Tommy Hanson (partly blame Butcher for not ever getting great results with Walden). Everything this guy does just ****s this organization up even more...he does not deserve to keep his job after this. H…

Very loud chorus of boos throughout his first at bat. You can hate him, but everyone has an opinion about him. And people are still buying tickets and watching yankee games. Best thing that's happened to baseball

I'm going to preface this by clarifying that I am in no way arguing that Tony Reagins was a good GM. He deserved to be fired because of the Wells and Kazmir trade, and the destroying of the farm system. This post is made to discuss how the firing of Reagins was Arte's way of telling the fan base that everything is going to be okay. The problem is, guess who hired Tony Reagins? Arte Moreno. Guess who replaced Tony Reagins with Jerry Dipoto who has been a huge failure so far? Arte Moreno. We've hired two GM's, and there has been one common denominator in the shitty decision makings...Arte Moreno. He is the one who felt these two men were the right one's for the job. He'…

A jury in Barry County, Mich., needed only a few hours of deliberations to find former MLB outfielder Chad Curtis guilty of six counts of criminal sexual conduct against three teenage girls. Curtis, 44, was working as a weight room trainer and substitute teacher. His duties also included massage therapy for muscle rehabilitation. He was arrested in May 2012 after two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old accused him of touching them inappropriately. The jury got the case around noon today and found him guilty on all counts. Curtis played for six teams in 10 MLB seasons. He won the World Series with the Yankees in 1998 and '99. He faces up to 15 years in prison. @Deadspin: For…

By Steve Adams [August 16 at 12:41pm CST] The Phillies have called a press conference today that is scheduled for 2:30 ET, and Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly reports that the team will announce a new manager (Twitter link). Charlie Manuel has been managing the Phillies since the beginning of the 2005 season, during which time the team has posted a record of 780-636. The Phils won a World Series title under his leadership in 2008 and returned to the World Series in 2009, though they were denied a repeat championship by the Yankees.

August 16, 2013 ANAHEIM, California - Even as the Los Angeles Angels are no longer in the hunt for a playoff spot, 14 games out of a wildcard berth and 15.5 games out of first place, superstar outfielder, Mike Trout, has more on his mind: his WAR. WAR is a term used by sabermetric analysts (aka stat-nerds) as a catchall number to express a player's total value in the form of "Wins Above Replacement" - that is, how good a player is relative to a hypothetical "replacement player" - the type of player that any team could easily find in AAA as a replacement for a major league caliber starter - players such as Paul McAnulty, Andrew Romine, Robb Quinlan and Josh Hamilt…
