Its important to realize that steroids don't make a great player, they just make a great player even greater. Obviously Bonds was roiding it, but he was already the best player in baseball during the 90s and he attained a level in 2001-04 that no one else - including other steroid users - had reached since Babe Ruth. Steroids or not, Bonds was just incredible.

The same goes for Cabrera, or Pujols for that matter. No matter what, they're great hitters. If steroids turned a .300, 35 HR season into .320, 40 HR, OK.

Just imagine if Blanton has been juicing.

He'd throw harder but have command issues. So, he'd still suck. Steroids aren't a magic elixir, people.

I disagree.  I don't think any of us know what effect it had on which players and to what degree.  We don't know all of the players that have used, when they started, what they used and for how long.  Barry Bonds may have used for long before it was actually suspected.  To try and base his use purely on a change in his physical appearance is presumptive as well.

Point is, I don't think we can make any assumptions about any player in particular during that era and perhaps to some degree even now.

don't be too sure.  maybe and easier, less effort delivery with the same velocity allows for more movement on his pitches and allow him to pitch with more control.  assume nothing about what effect PEDs could have for any player in particular .

Funny, there's an article on ESPN about Trout saying roid users should get a lifetime ban, and the top comment (probably by a Tigers fan) is suggesting that Trout is a user himself. Hey, if other people are just gonna trash any good young player that comes around, it's only fair to return the hate and be suspicious of Cabrera.
