Mark Trumbo for Ivan Nova makes sense for both teams

They desperately need offense, and we desperately need starting pitching after Weaver, Wilson, and Vargas.

Both Nova and Trumbo have 3 more seasons of club control after 2013.

 

Sounds like a possible trade.

 

The one main issue is Nova's durability.

If we're going to pick up a Skank pitching scrub, we might as wait until after the season and sign Phil Hughes to a cheaper-than-Blanton deal. That way, all it costs is money.

One of Calhoun, Trumbo, or Bourjos will be gone before 2014. A lot will probably depend on what they get in return. Calhoun is probably the most undervalued on the trade market, unless he does well for the rest of this year. I wouldn't do this trade without something else included from the Yankees, either a reliever or a prospect.

Then again, I'd also take Jon Garland today over Blanton.

 

Maybe, maybe, Trumbo becomes another Chris Davis. 

But these 2 month slumps that he goes into each season don't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

No. I'd understand if they were to get a good return from the Yankees, but Nova is overrated. 

 

Hughes, Romine, etc… ok, but Hughes is a pending FA, why give up anything for him. 

 

I could see trading an asset for a guy like the Rays Jake Odorozzi, that makes sense, but not Nova. (The Rays don't need Trumbo anyway).

 

Aybar to the Cardinals for Michael Wacha and/or Zach Cox makes sense.

and that's why people have to look past Nova' 4.2 era (which isn't even that bad).

 

It might be a run lower playing in the AL West.
