He made an awkward slide trying to stretch a single into a double, and had to leave the game. It looks like the hip. No word yet on the extent of the injury. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/miguel-cabrera-limps-off-field-awkward-slide-second-191959971--mlb.html

Interview conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer One of the Orem Owlz who has taken the team by storm is Michael Fish. Not only has he gotten off to a fast start, he's showing an excellent eye at the plate. He's got power. He's got speed. And he has defense. As of the time of this writing, he's sporting .382/.433/.740 line on the season (split between the AZL Angels and Orem Owlz). Coming from New York, his favorite team was the Yankees. As he notes in the interview, the emphasis was on the word "was". He's an Angels player now, and is working hard to make the team in Anaheim. We recently caught up with Michael Fish to find out more about this up …

They can still sign him in the offseason, but I hope they can pull something off and get a decent prospect for him. What do you think, trade him or hold on to him?

Jason Vargas may have finally regained his form. On Thursday afternoon, in the finale of a three-game series at Tropicana Field and in his fourth start since missing nearly two months with a blood clot, the veteran left-hander hurled seven scoreless innings against the Rays, leading the Angels to a 2-0 victory and a series win. "More than a month after the Phillies reportedly agreed to a six-year, $48MM contract for Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, the team has officially announced that they have signed him to a drastically reduced three-year, $12MM contract with a vesting option for a fourth season." Wow, what a drop off in money. Something has to be up with his health

Interview Conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer Last winter the Angels hired Bill Richardson to manage the Orem Owlz, their advanced short-season team. Taking over for Tom Kotchman, Bill was given the tough assignment of breaking in and molding many of the youngest and newest players in the organization and to help them adjust to the rigors of playing professional baseball. Prior to taking over for the Owlz, Bill had spent the past 5 years managing in the Texas Rangers organization. However, his route to managing professionally was not direct: like some of his players, he did not get the call to the pros until later in life. We'll let Bill explain h…

By Glenn McKee, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Way back in mid-March, long before this season was in the crapper and there was still some optimism – Hamilton is gonna bounce back after and we’ll have four guys hitting 30+ HR this year! – I joked that it was never too early to give up on a season. After seeing the results of a dozen or so spring training games, I was already worried. It was that same worry long-time (as in, pre-2002) Angels fans know well, having lived with it for just about every season. A small part of me was already giving up on the season, knowing how it would end – the same was most of my seasons rooting for the Angels (since about 1979) h…

As many of you know, last week I was in Orem conducting interviews with the players and coaches to try and get to know many of the most recent additions to our organization. I had a great time, and there is a LOT of talent on that team! Angels fans, if you haven't started following them, you should--many of these guys will make names for themselves as they move up the organizational ladder. I won't be surprised if several of them even get a jump over Burlington next year and go straight to Inland Empire. While there aren't many games left on their season, I would highly suggest tuning into to their radio broadcasts at www.oremowlz.com and even joining the live chat (w…

Of course, what else is new? 6.00 ERA in 4 previous starts (18 innings) earlier this year Do we even have advance scouts, Arte? Fortunately for these clueless hitters (Jimenez excepted), Vargas has rolled since leaving the bases loaded in the first inning.

Affectionately nicknamed "Peace" by his Inland Empire teammates, Stamets is the best defensive shortstop I've ever seen in person. No exaggeration. Defensively, he's MLB-ready right now. Quick release, strong arm, great range, makes all the routine plays, great footwork, can turn two with ease. I know for a fact that he also impressed Omar Vizquel, and that speaks volumes about his defensive wizardry. Offensively, he's a very good bunter and utilizes his plus speed. Gets a fair amount of infield hits with swinging bunts. I like his approach at the plate. I think he's capable of swiping 30+ bags and seldom getting caught. Good instincts. He can occasionally drive t…

The veteran left-hander improves to 8-5 after giving up only two hits in seven innings. The Angels are 5-1 on a nine-game trip. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Angels were 18 1/2 games out of first place when they started what Manager Mike Scioscia called "our little burst" — winning five of six to start a nine-game trip. If Scioscia called for it and is man enough to admit it, he deserves to be fired solely on that. Conger hits a two bagger with two outs his previous at bat (with no runners on), then ''surprise bunts'' Conger with two outs (with runners on 2nd and 3rd), it had a Scioscia-esque play written all over it.

...will still be on the Yankees next year. Quit worrying about Moreno signing him. Rivera is retiring, Jeter is in the sunset of his career, A-Rod won't be there, Granderson is a free-agent, Teixeira is gonna suck. The Yankees desperately need Cano back, and he will be back in pinstripes. He's not gonna be an Angel. Quit beating that drum. And while I'm bitching, it's Dipoto, not DiPoto. That's all.

Peter Bourjos struck out to end the seventh on Thursday and, in a rare display of emotion by the mild-mannered center fielder, spiked his bat on the Tropicana Field turf and watched it roll all the way to the Angels' dugout. View the full article

Pocket Aces 1 2
by Troll Daddy- 29 replies

Weaver is a Ace (some here think different) Blank is a Ace (just have to fill in the blank) The top teams to go deep into the playoffs usually have two Aces in the hole. Some of you may or may not agree with that theory. Signing Vargas or Garza would be nice but I prefer they go after a Ace caliber pitcher. I think it would be essential is making the playoffs and going deep into them. Looks like a trade may be in order for that to happen.
