A couple things to consider as you digest my statement: 1) I've been following baseball for over three decades, since the early '80s, so what I've "seen" covers that period of time 2) The best player I've ever seen play is Barry Bonds, who was an incredible hitter - steroids or not. My belief is that regardless of what impact steroids had on a player's performance, considering two things a) the likelihood that a large percentage of players were using steroids at any give time, and even considering the impact of steroids, not all players were performing at a high level of play, my conclusion is that Bonds was great no matter what his "steroidal" impact was. Josh Hamilton's left shoulder continues to bother him when he throws. On Tuesday, it prompted him to be removed from the game for defense in the bottom of the ninth. On Wednesday, it forced him to start at designated hitter for the 10th time this month. View the full article

Typical Mets. Byrd traded to Pirates hours before Marlon Byrd T-Shirt night. New York Mets fans fired up to attend Tuesday night's Marlon Byrd T-shirt night might end up a little disappointed when the outfielder isn't in the lineup ... and when they don't get a Marlon Byrd "Let it fly" tee. Turns out the Mets traded Byrd to the playoff-contending Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday afternoon. A few hours after the deal, the team's website was still promoting the giveaway. However, by 4 p.m. ET, the promotion, which included a picture (below) of front-and-back views of the T-shirt, was removed. newyork.mets.mlb.com A call to the Mets' box office confirmed the team won…

By Steve Adams [August 26, 2013 at 2:15pm CST] The Marlins announced that they have activated Casey Kotchman from the disabled list and released him. The 30-year-old Kotchman signed a minor league deal with the Marlins this offseason but appeared in only six games for the Fish before hitting the disabled list with a hamstring injury. Upon being activated from the 60-day DL in June, he suffered an oblique strain that has kept him on the shelf since. Kotchman went hitless (0-for-20) in his six games with the Marlins but is a career .260/.326/.385 hitter in parts of 10 seasons with the Angels, Braves, Red Sox, Rays, Indians, Mariners and Marlins. Hopefully, he'll be able…

How would you fix it? If it was up to me, I'd sign Masahiro Tanaka and try to pull of a trade of Bourjos and Trumbo/Kendrick for Taijuan Walker. We'd have two experienced top of the rotation guys in Weaver and Wilson to go along with 3 young power arms with a ton of potential. Weaver Wilson Tanaka Richards Walker

Dane De La Rosa had good stuff in Tampa Bay. His fastball velocity climbed all the way to 96 mph as the year would go on, just like it has with the Angels in 2013. And in his final season in the Rays' organization, he started to develop the tighter breaking ball that Rays pitching coach Jim Hickey believes has made all the difference. View the full article

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Back in early to mid-July I wrote this article regarding the possibility that Howie Kendrick might be traded before the 2014 season starts. In that article I listed some teams that might be possible trade partners for the Angels. In one of those trade scenarios, the one involving the Dodgers, I gave a very low probability of making a trade because of the possible perceived battle for the hearts, minds and ticket sales of the fans and residents of Los Angeles County. A lot of news has passed in the last two months, revolving not only around Howie Kendrick but many other players as well. In fact it has now spread beyon…

Is it just me or are hit-and-runs kind of pointless? The batter usually ends up striking out because it's a pitch way out of the zone. Are they ever effective?

Pujols said something back, and Hunter jumped him for being a bad teammate and pouting all season whenever he failed to get hits in a game, even in games the Angels won … and now he was going to call others out? “Shut up, Torii, Pujols snapped. It was then that Hunter, from across the clubhouse, lost it and charged Pujols. Hawkins and outfielder Vernon Wells had to restrain him.

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - AUG. 27, 2002 GAME 131 - DEVIL RAYS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM – Scott Spiezio’s two-out, three-run double in the seventh inning broke open a close game and led the Angels to a 7-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays before 19,869 at Edison Field. The Angels took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases on a single, error and a walk. With two outs, Devil Rays starter Victor Zambrano was replaced by reliever Travis Harper, who gave up the bases-clearing double to Spiezio. It was one of three hits for Spiezio, who wasn't the only Angel two swing the bat well in the game. Alex Ochoa and Garret Anderson…
