ANAHEIM —David Fletcher and Jared Walsh both returned to the Angels with a bang after being exiled to Triple-A for most of the season, but it wasn’t nearly enough to get them a victory.

Fletcher and Walsh each homered in the Angels’ 11-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Fletcher got the start and Walsh entered as a defensive replacement after the Angels fell behind by so many runs that third baseman Eduardo Escobar entered to pitch.

Fletcher hit a homer off the left field pole in the seventh inning and Walsh homered in the ninth.

Otherwise, the Angels had only four hits.

Angels starter Griffin Canning gave up four runs in six innings, including a pair of solo homers to Javy Baez and Jake Rogers.

Canning has a 3.70 ERA in his four starts since returning to the rotation following a stint on the injured list.

He’s now up to 116 innings, which is significantly up from the 90⅓ innings he pitched in 2019, his only previous full season in the majors.

It was 4-0 when Canning left the game, and the Angels trailed 4-1 when left-hander Jhonathan Diaz was charged with seven runs in the eighth. Once the deficit reached 10 runs, Escobar came out to pitch.
