OC Register: Commissioner Rob Manfred says potential Angels owners are examining financial data

Recommended Posts

Commissioner Rob Manfred said that multiple parties who are involved in bidding for the Angels are now at the point of “actually seeing financial information. It’s an important step forward in the process.”

Manfred said that the Angels would like to “have the sale resolved before Opening Day,” but he could not say if the bidding process can be completed that quickly.

Arte Moreno, who has owned the team since 2003, announced in August that he was exploring a sale.

There have been no confirmed names among the potential owners, but Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob has been frequently linked to the team. Lacob has roots in Orange County and has been trying to purchase a baseball team.

General manager Perry Minasian has said repeatedly that his business is continuing as usual while he waits for the sale. He has already made deals that committed the Angels to a payroll of just under $200 million for 2023, which is about $10 million higher than their Opening Day payroll in 2022 and about $20 million higher than the number at the end of the season.
