CLEVELAND — Patrick Sandoval, one of the Angels’ top pitching prospects, is on his way to the big leagues.

Sandoval will be promoted and make his big-league debut with a start on Monday in Cincinnati, according to a source close to Sandoval.

Angels general manager Billy Eppler would not confirm the news.

Sandoval, 22, has a 5.71 ERA over 20 games this season at Double-A and Triple-A.

Despite his trouble this year, mostly in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, Sandoval is still the Angels’ 11th-rated prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The left-hander is the team’s highest-rated pitcher who hasn’t yet appeared in the majors.

Last year, when the Angels got him from the Houston Astros in the Martín Maldonado deal, Sandoval had a 2.06 ERA with 145 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings, rising to Double-A.

A product of Mission Viejo High, Sandoval would be the third of the Angels’ top pitching prospects to make his big-league debut this season. He follows Griffin Canning, 23, and José Suarez, 21, who are both currently on the major league roster. Suarez was in line to start on Monday.

The Angels have been desperate for quality pitching for most of the season, which has provided opportunities for young pitchers.

Staff writer Steve Fryer contributed to this report.

Bring them all up. I could care less what their ERA is. Release failed retreads like Cahill, Bour etc. This year's FA was a clusterF.......

Sigh . . .

Anyone?

All Sandoval needs is a good night's sleep and not think about any of a hundred ways his career could end tomorrow pitching for the Angels.

I’ll bite.

I’d love to see Bour pitch, but I think I’d rather watch him mash taters instead.
