OC Register: Angels’ Andrew Heaney returns from elbow injury healthy, but disappointed with outing

Recommended Posts

THE GAME: The Angels gave up eight runs in the third inning on their way to a 15-8 loss to the Chicago White Sox on a windy Friday afternoon at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Andrew Heaney returned after missing a start with elbow inflammation. Heaney needed 25 pitches for the first four batters, retiring two of them, before he was pulled in order to avoid throwing too many pitches in one inning. He then went to the bullpen to throw 20 more. Heaney said he was fine physically, but he was not happy with how he pitched. “I was just working on a couple different things and it didn’t go real well,” Heaney said. Heaney has recorded five outs in two spring training games. … Right-hander Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect inning. … Left-hander Dan Jennings, who had not allowed a run in his first three games, faced four batters and didn’t retire any. One hitter had a wind-blown double and one had a bunt single. … Right-hander Cam Bedrosian gave up four runs on two homers. … Right-hander Justin Anderson gave up a run on two hits and a walk.

HITTING REPORT: Mike Trout led off the game with a double and scored on an Albert Pujols’ single. Pujols, who also drew a walk, is 8 for 16 with three walks this spring. … Taylor Ward and Matt Thaiss had one hit apiece. Thaiss is 10 for 24 this spring. … Jo Adell drove in a run with a single and he struck out twice in his three trips. Adell is 8 for 22 in his first big league spring training.

DEFENSE REPORT: Strong wind blowing out seemed to give outfielders Peter Bourjos and Jo Adell trouble on a couple balls. … Third baseman Ward made a nice backhand play on a ball down the line. He also fielded a ground ball and made an accurate throw home to get a runner.
