OC Register: Angels add Brett Phillips for outfield depth

Recommended Posts

The Angels have agreed with journeyman outfielder Brett Phillips on a one-year, major-league deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal is worth $1.2 million, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

The Angels have not confirmed the deal, which would require them to clear a 40-man roster spot.

Phillips, 28, has a career .620 OPS in 791 major league at-bats, with the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. Last season he had a .466 OPS, splitting time with the Orioles and Rays.

Phillips, who hits left-handed, joins an outfield depth chart that includes starters Mike Trout, Taylor Ward and Hunter Renfroe, and potential backups Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak.
