OC Register: Here’s who made the Angels’ Opening Day roster

Recommended Posts

Taylor Ward was placed on the injured list on with a left groin strain, leaving the Angels with only three true outfielders on their 28-man Opening Day roster.

Mike Trout, Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh are the starting outfielders, but the Angels have utility players Jose Rojas and Tyler Wade on the roster, and both can also play outfield.

With rosters expanded by two spots for April because of the shortened spring, the Angels opted to use those spots for ninth and 10th relief pitchers. Starters are expected to be able to throw 75-80 pitches at the beginning of the season.

The Angels also put pitchers Griffin Canning (back), Cooper Criswell (shoulder) and Chris Rodriguez (shoulder) on the injured list. Canning and Rodriguez were hurt before spring training, and Criswell was hurt early in camp.

The Angels open the season Thursday night against the Houston Astros at Angel Stadium. Pregame ceremonies start at 6:30, and the first pitch will be closer to 7.
